GSoC proposal to GNU Mailman
Its GSoC time again and this time I went on a step further by submitting a proposal to melange.Usually I would be busy like hell during the student application time and could not quite find time to apply or look out for projects, during the previous years. This time, I came across the Mailman Ideas page while searching for Django projects., and found the CLI project.
The Mailman CLI project aims at building command line utilities for the Mailman, providing a usable interface for mailman through he commandline.
I succeeded in writing a fairly detailed proposal and I was happy with it, submitted it to melange straight away. I also informed the probable mentor to the project, Stephen Turnbull, about my application. He came up with a very detailed feedback (something huge, 500 words, well 494 to be exact), shortly.
The feedback mainly commented upon various changes possible or to be considered in aspects like project architecture, the schedule, use of autotest and some general feedback upon the deliverables and ambiguity in the writeup.Plus a few compliments about the proposal :)
Revised the architecture part as per suggestions, felt that a single command would be better than two. Also,he provided me with the terms I have kept looking for while writing the proposal, the command tools and the command shell.
Suggested me to discuss with Barry about the autotest test case.Maybe he did not quite get what autotest does, and I explained him that it has nothing to do with the mailman code.In fact someone in some corner of the world would already have written a test script for mailman. So not going to Barry right now.
And sheeeh.. I mispelt separate as seperate twice in the proposal, and thats how the comment ended.
It took me a few hours to make all suggested changes and re-upload it to melange(provides a too small editor, I use Google Drive instead). And now we wait. :)
